Have you ever spent more time choosing a movie than watching one? Netflix is testing a new tool that may make this decision easier. On November 3, 2026, the company introduced AI Discover, an AI-powered area in its TV app. It is designed to recommend movies and shows that match a viewer’s mood. (about.netflix.com)

The AI does not secretly study your face or read your mind. Instead, you choose a theme that explains what you want. For example, you might select “Something Light,” “Scare Me,” or “Family Movie Night.” If you are short on time, you can choose “Quick Watches.” Netflix then offers several titles that may be appropriate for that situation. You can also select more specific themes to narrow down the results. (about.netflix.com)

The system uses information such as your watch history, preferences, and the time of day. If a recommendation does not interest you, you can press “Tune Recommendations” and ask the AI not to show that title again in AI Discover. The system remembers your choice and adjusts its future suggestions. However, Netflix warns that the AI is still developing and can make mistakes. (help.netflix.com)

This is not Netflix’s first experiment with mood-based AI. The company has also tested a search tool on iPhones and iPads. It allows users to type natural sentences such as “Something funny and upbeat,” almost as if they were asking a friend for advice. (help.netflix.com)

For now, AI Discover is optional and available only to a small group of English-speaking users in the United States with supported TVs or streaming devices. It is not available on children’s profiles. Still, this experiment may show us the future of entertainment: instead of searching by actor or genre, we may simply tell our television how we want to feel. (about.netflix.com)
