What do you say at the shop?
I buy one red apple. At the desk, a woman smiles.
“Hi,” she says.
“Hi,” I say.
“A bag?” she asks.
“No, thank you.”
I pay. Then she says, “Thank you.”
I say, “Thank you, too.”
The words are small. But the smile is big. Small talk can make a good day.
