Under the proposal, if a traveler buys a rail trip with different operators in one transaction on one platform, it would count as a single ticket. Then, if a delay causes a missed connection, the passenger could get help, a new route to the final destination, reimbursement, and compensation for the whole trip. Big online ticket services owned by rail companies with at least 50 percent of their home market would have to show all available rail services in that country in their search results. But here is the quiet truth: this is still a proposal. The Commission has sent it to the European Parliament and the Council, so travel will not change tomorrow. In the rail-ticketing proposal, the Commission says the rules would apply 12 months after the law enters into force, roughly around the second half of 2028.
