Many people sit for a long time while working. They may feel tired, stiff, or unable to focus. A full workout can seem difficult during a busy day.
An “exercise snack” is a short period of movement. It is not food. It usually takes only a few minutes. You can do it between small work tasks. Research suggests these short breaks can improve fitness. They may also reduce some problems from long sitting. Even light activity is better than staying in your chair. (bjsm.bmj.com)
Try this simple example. Finish an email, and then stand up. Walk quickly around the room. Next, raise your arms toward the ceiling. Then sit down and stand up several times. Move slowly if you are new to exercise. Stop if you feel pain or become dizzy.
The goal is not to become very tired. The goal is to break up long sitting time. Set a quiet reminder if you often forget. Small movements can fit into a normal workday. They may also make exercise feel easier to start. Your next healthy choice may begin beside your desk.
