Have you ever looked at your phone and thought, “I need to call that shop... but not now”? That tiny problem has a very new answer. Google Search is starting to make some calls for you. (blog.google)
Picture this. Mika needs a pet groomer for her dog before the weekend. She is busy. She does not want to call three or four places. So she searches for “pet groomers near me.” In some results, Google can show an option like “Have AI check pricing.” Mika sends her request, and then Search can call local businesses, ask about price and availability, and bring back options for her. This did not appear all at once. Google began rolling out AI-powered calling to local businesses in July 2025. Then, at Google I/O on May 19, 2026, Google said that for some categories, like home repair, beauty, and pet care, people can ask Google to call businesses on their behalf. Google also said these calling tools are rolling out to everyone in the U.S. in summer 2026. (blog.google)
Now here is the important turn. This is not a wild robot calling anyone it wants. Google says businesses stay in control through Business Profile settings. A business can allow or reject automated calls and texts from Google. Google also says these calls are monitored and recorded for quality. (support.google.com)
So the change is simple, but big. Search is not only helping you find a place. Search is starting to do a small real-world job too. Maybe the future will feel like this: first you ask a question, and then your search starts moving in the world for you.
