Have you ever opened Instagram just to look for one minute, and then thought, wait, do I want to buy that?
These days, a new kind of selling can start with a live video, but the buy button often comes a little later. Picture a small shop owner at night. She goes live and shows one simple bag. She opens it. She puts in a phone, keys, and a water bottle. People ask, “Is it heavy?” “Is there a pocket inside?” She answers right away. In that moment, the bag feels real, not like a cold picture on a shopping site.
Now here is the interesting part. On Instagram, people can still watch Live, write comments, react, share the video, and watch a replay later. But Instagram stopped letting sellers tag products inside Live on March 16, 2023. (facebook.com)
So this created a new flow. The live video builds trust first. Then the sale moves to the next step. A seller may say, “Check my Reel,” or “Tap the link in my Story.” Instagram says approved businesses and creators with a shop can tag products in Reels, and viewers can tap “View products” to buy, save, or learn more. Instagram also lets Stories use a link sticker that opens a website. (facebook.com)
Imagine Mika on the train home. She watches a live video from a soap maker. Mika asks, “Is the lemon soap strong?” The maker smiles and says, “No, it is soft and fresh.” A few minutes later, Mika watches the short Reel, taps the product, and buys one.
That is the new selling style. Live is not always the place where money moves. Live is the place where trust begins. And sometimes, one small answer is what turns looking into buying.
