Have you ever thought, “Can one earbud help me talk to anyone?”
On June 9, 2026, Google announced Gemini 3.5 Live Translate. It is a new AI voice tool for live translation. Google says it can listen to more than 70 languages, find the language by itself, and speak the translation in a smooth voice. It also tries to keep the speaker’s tone, speed, and feeling. The tool is rolling out in Google Translate on Android and iPhone, and it works with any headphones. (blog.google)
Now imagine a simple moment. You are traveling, and someone near you asks a question in Spanish. You open Google Translate, tap Live translate, and put in your earbuds. You hear the English translation in your ear. Then you answer in English, and your phone speaks Spanish out loud for the other person. Google says the system works almost in real time, staying only a few seconds behind, so the talk feels more natural. (blog.google)
That is the big change. Older tools often waited for one person to finish, then gave the translation. This new system keeps listening and speaking more smoothly. Google also says the same technology will expand speech translation in Google Meet from five languages to more than 70, with over 2,000 language combinations. (blog.google)
So, can one earbud really help people have a conversation? Maybe not perfectly, not yet. But it is getting much closer. And when language feels less like a wall, even a short talk with a stranger can feel warm, easy, and real. (blog.google)
