"Where did our ancestors come from?" Recent DNA research has revealed new findings about Japanese origins. Our roots are formed by three distinct ancestral groups.
The oldest Jomon people arrived from the continent 20,000 years ago as hunter-gatherers. Later, around 300 BCE, the Yayoi people brought rice farming from China. After the 3rd century, another group migrated from the Korean Peninsula.
Interestingly, these three genetic influences vary by region. Okinawa shows strong Jomon traits, the Kansai region has prominent Yayoi characteristics, and Tohoku carries genetic markers from Korean Peninsula migrants. This discovery scientifically confirms the diverse roots of Japanese people.
