Fifty-five years ago, the "Human Washing Machine" made a bold debut, and now it is making a comeback in the Reiwa era at the Osaka-Kansai Expo.
Did you know that there was once a serious attempt to create a machine that could "wash" humans? The "Ultrasonic Bath," introduced by Sanyo Electric at the 1970 Osaka Expo, was an innovative device that automatically cleaned the entire body using fine bubbles generated by ultrasonic waves. It became a legendary exhibit, attracting long lines of visitors at the expo, which saw over 64 million attendees.
Now, in 2025, the "Human Washing Machine" has returned, equipped with modern technology at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. This new model inherits the concept of "fully automatic bathing" while integrating the latest technologies such as AI body shape detection and automatic optimization of temperature and water flow. The response has been overwhelming, leading to a temporary halt in accepting experience applications.
In terms of presentation, the former demonstrator from 1970 has collaborated on this project, creating a remarkable partnership that brings the "dream of the past" back to life as a real experience.
