"Hagakure" is a book that compiles the words of Yamamoto Tsunetomo, a samurai from the Edo period. Approximately 300 years ago, Tsunetomo, who served the Saga Domain, taught young samurai the principles of Bushido, the samurai code of conduct.
One of the most famous quotes from this book is, "The way of the samurai is found in death." This means that a samurai should always be prepared for death. However, it does not simply advocate dying. The idea is that by not fearing death, one can live life to the fullest.
"Hagakure" also contains many teachings on the mindset and daily life of a samurai. For example, it emphasizes the importance of being useful to others, not lying, and valuing etiquette.
Tsunetomo believed that a samurai should be ready to devote his life to his lord. At the same time, he placed great importance on living sincerely in everyday life.
