Milan Design Week 2026 filled the city from April 20 to 26, and the main Salone del Mobile fair ran from April 21 to 26 at Rho Fiera. The fair welcomed 316,342 visitors from 167 countries. Among many new ideas, one trend stood out: the “room with sound.” In other words, designers made spaces that were not only beautiful to look at, but also exciting to hear. (comune.milano.it)
Wallpaper* reported that sound was one of the biggest themes of the week. For a long time, interior design often tried to remove noise and make rooms very quiet. In Milan this year, many brands did the opposite. They used music, speakers, and listening rooms to give a space mood, energy, and emotion. Visionnaire showed “Déjà-Vu,” a listening room inspired by 1970s clubs. Its art director, Eleonore Cavalli, said sound is an important part of design and can even help people feel better. There were many fun examples. At Alcova, Vintage Audio Institute Italia showed old synthesizers from the 1960s and 1970s with Slalom Acoustics. People watched tape machines turn and musicians play live. In Brera, an installation called “Sounds of Design” explored the link between sound, space, and material inside a historic building once used for music production. At Deoron, designer Yont said sound systems are becoming the center of a room because they change how people gather and how long they want to stay. (wallpaper.com)
This idea may stay with us after Milan. LAGO said sound can become part of the room itself, not just an extra machine in the corner. Impact Acoustic also presented a new cotton-based acoustic material for walls, ceilings, and partitions. So the new room is not only pretty. It is active, warm, and full of feeling. At Milan Design Week 2026, good design did not sit in silence. It spoke. (lagodesign.com)
