On May 19, 2026, Google showed its new AI glasses at Google I/O 2026. Google calls them “intelligent eyewear.” They use Android XR, a system Google built with Samsung and Qualcomm, and they work with Gemini, Google’s AI helper. Google says there will be two kinds: audio glasses, which speak in your ear, and display glasses, which can also show information in the lens. The audio glasses will come first, later in fall 2026. These glasses are made to help you while your hands stay free. Google says you can get directions, send texts, snap photos, and use apps without taking out your phone. In an earlier demo, Google also showed live language translation. That means the glasses can help two people understand each other in real time, almost like subtitles in the real world. Google says the glasses have a camera, microphones, and speakers, and some versions may include a small private display in the lens. (blog.google)
Google also wants the glasses to look good and feel easy to wear all day. For that reason, it is working with fashion eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. Google showed some of the first frame designs at I/O 2026. The company has also been testing prototypes with trusted testers, and it says privacy is an important part of the work. (blog.google)
For English learners, this idea is exciting. Imagine walking in a new city and asking, “Where is the station?” Your glasses could guide you. Or imagine hearing a new language and seeing help right away. Google’s new AI glasses are still coming soon, not here yet, but they give us a fun picture of the future: small glasses, simple voice help, and useful information at the right time.
