Matsudo City in Chiba Prefecture has been ranked first in the 2023 "Best Cities for Working Parents" list, conducted by Nikkei xwoman and Nikkei Inc. This ranking is based on responses from 160 municipalities across Japan. Matsudo City has been recognized for its comprehensive child-rearing support, which is a key initiative for the city. Over the past five years, the city has expanded its childcare facilities by adding 109 new kindergartens and nurseries. It has also achieved zero waiting lists for children needing care for five consecutive years, meeting national standards. To support working families, Matsudo has made childcare facilities more accessible by increasing the number of centers near train stations. The city has strengthened ties with the community by providing 28 child-rearing support centers, such as the "Oyako Sukoyaka Center" and "Oyako DE Hiroba." Additionally, Matsudo offers subsidies for taxi fares for pregnant women and has implemented a paid helper service called "Matsudo Baby Helper," which also provides free tickets. The city collaborates with health professionals to offer temporary childcare services and has extended after-school care in kindergartens during long vacations. Matsudo's consistent efforts in child-rearing support have earned it the top spot in the ranking for 2020, 2021, and now 2023, thanks to the valuable collaboration between the government, local organizations, and the community.
