Travel in Asia is changing in a quiet but important way. At immigration, many visitors no longer fill in a paper card by hand. Instead, they are asked to send their information online before they arrive. South Korea is a clear example. It launched its e-Arrival Card on February 24, 2025, so foreign travelers could submit entry details online. Korea said the form could be completed from three days before arrival until immigration inspection, and during 2025 travelers could choose either paper or electronic forms. (immigration.go.kr)
Korea is not alone. Thailand began requiring the Thailand Digital Arrival Card from May 1, 2025, for non-Thai nationals entering by air, land, or sea, and the form must be submitted within three days before arrival. Singapore also requires the SG Arrival Card within three days before arrival for most travelers. Malaysia uses the MDAC, which asks visitors to register trip details within three days before entering the country. The Philippines uses eTravel, a digital system that replaced paper arrival and departure cards and can be completed within 72 hours before arrival or departure. (lamphun.immigration.go.th)
This change gives travelers a new habit to learn: the trip now starts before the airport. You need to check the official immigration website, enter your passport and travel details carefully, and save the result on your phone. Korea sends a confirmation email and lets users download a PDF. Singapore also provides a PDF or email after successful submission, while the Philippines tells travelers to keep their personal QR code ready. (immigration.go.kr)
There is one more lesson: be careful with scams. Korea, Singapore, and the Philippines have all warned travelers about fake websites that charge money for services that should be free on official government platforms. So the new common sense of Asian travel is not only digital, but also smart: use the official site, submit early, and keep proof on your phone. A small online form can make your arrival much smoother. (immigration.go.kr)
