Google made Google Vids much more open in its April 2, 2026 update. Now, anyone with a normal Google account can use Google Vids to create AI video clips for free. Google says personal accounts get 10 free video generations each month with Veo 3.1, its latest video model. This is a big change because Vids was first known mainly as a Google Workspace tool for work and school. Google’s help pages also say basic Google Vids features are available with a Google Account. The new system is easy to understand. You can type a short prompt, or even use a photo, and Google Vids can turn that idea into a video clip. Google’s help page says users can start with Veo 3.1 inside Vids, choose landscape or portrait, and generate a clip from text or animate an image. This means a learner, a small business owner, or a student can quickly make a simple promo, greeting video, or short visual story without difficult editing software. (support.google.com)
Google also added more tools around video making. A new Chrome extension lets users record their screen and themselves from the browser, and finished videos can be sent straight to YouTube. For paid Google AI Pro and Ultra users, Google added even more creative features: custom music made with Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro, plus AI avatars that can speak and appear in different scenes. Some AI features in Vids are still mainly in English, but Google’s help pages say AI voiceovers and AI avatars support Japanese too. Overall, this update makes Google Vids feel closer to an everyday creativity tool, not only a work app. (blog.google)
