In late May and early June 2026, New York will welcome a very big HYROX event. According to the official event page, HYROX New York will be held across two weekends and eight days of racing, from May 28 to June 1 and from June 3 to June 7. HYROX says 50,000 athletes are expected, which would make it the largest HYROX event in North American history. The race will take place at Pier 76 on Manhattan’s west side. (hyrox.com)
So, what is HYROX? It is a fitness race with one clear format: athletes run 1 kilometer, then complete one workout station, and repeat that pattern eight times. The workout stations include movements such as SkiErg, sled push, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls. Because the race format is the same around the world, people can compare their times with racers in other cities. HYROX also offers four main categories—Open, Pro, Doubles, and Relay—so beginners and experienced athletes can all take part. (hyrox.com)
The sport is spreading quickly. HYROX says it started in Germany in 2017, and its homepage says that more than 80 races in 2025 brought in over 550,000 athletes and 350,000 spectators. In a January 2026 announcement, HYROX said it now hosts 105 events in more than 30 countries and expects more than 1.5 million participants in the 2025/26 season. New events in cities such as Lyon and Wuhan show that the sport is still expanding. HYROX feels fresh because it mixes running, strength, and a loud indoor atmosphere, but it is also designed for everyday gym users, not only top professionals. That mix may be the biggest reason so many people are joining. (hyrox.com)
