London has a new museum to visit. V&A East Museum is now open in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London. It opened on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The museum is free, and it is about a 10-minute walk from Stratford station. It is also close to V&A East Storehouse, another V&A place in the same park. (vam.ac.uk)
This museum wants to show how creativity can change the world. The building has five floors, and the V&A says it was created with young people and rooted in east London. Inside are two free galleries called Why We Make. Visitors can see more than 500 objects from art, fashion, design, architecture, and performance. Old and new works are shown together, so people can think about why humans make things. (vam.ac.uk)
The first big exhibition is The Music is Black: A British Story. It looks at Black British music from 1900 to today and its strong effect on British culture. Visitors can see personal items linked to stars such as Little Simz, JME, and Joan Armatrading, as well as photos by important artists. For English learners, this is exciting because the museum is not only about objects. It is also about people, sound, history, and everyday life. (vam.ac.uk)
There is more to enjoy, too. A new art program, New Work: Making East London, began on the opening day. It brings new works by artists to the museum and the nearby Storehouse, and several free displays are on view until October 18, 2026. So V&A East is not just a quiet museum. It is a lively new space where London’s past, present, and future meet. (vam.ac.uk)
