On March 3, 2026, Apple announced a new MacBook Air with the M5 chip. It comes in two sizes: 13-inch and 15-inch. Buyers can choose from four colors: sky blue, midnight, starlight, and silver. Apple said preorders started on March 4, 2026, and the new models began arriving to customers on March 11, 2026. (apple.com)
The biggest change is the M5 chip. Apple says this chip gives the MacBook Air faster speed for daily work, creative tasks, and AI features. The laptop has a 10-core CPU, and some models have up to a 10-core GPU. Apple also says AI tasks can be up to 4 times faster than on the M4 MacBook Air, and up to 9.5 times faster than on the M1 model. (apple.com)
There are other useful upgrades too. The new MacBook Air now starts with 512GB of storage, which is double the starting storage of the earlier generation, and users can choose up to 4TB. Apple also says the SSD is up to 2 times faster than before. The computer offers up to 18 hours of battery life, a 12MP Center Stage camera, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and support for up to two external displays. For wireless use, Apple’s N1 chip brings Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. (apple.com)
Price is important too. In the U.S., the 13-inch MacBook Air with M5 starts at $1,099, while the 15-inch model starts at $1,299. Apple also says the new MacBook Air uses 55 percent recycled content, including 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure, and its paper packaging is fiber-based. (apple.com)
Why is this laptop interesting? It is thin, light, silent, and now more powerful. For students, office workers, and many everyday users, that mix is very attractive. The new MacBook Air does not try to look dramatic. Instead, it tries to make normal life easier—and that may be the smartest upgrade of all.
