1. Use What You Know
You read a new story. Stop and think. What do I know? This is good. It helps you.
Look at the pictures too. Pictures help you find new words. Pictures make hard words easy.
2. Learn New Words
New words are important. Read a new word. Look at it. How is it used? Try it in a new story.
Some words help you read a story. Words like "because" are important. They help you know the story.
You learn a new word. Use it! Make a new story with it. Look at a picture with it.
3. Read and Think
You do not read word by word. Stop and think. Let's try these:
- Talk and think: Read a story. Say your words. Use your voice. "I think this is..." This helps you know hard words.
- Tell the story: Read a story. Then tell it to a friend. Use your words. Ask your friend, "Is this good?" This helps you learn.
- Look at the story: Some stories are fun stories. Some stories tell you new things. They are not the same. Think about this.
4. Read Every Day
Reading every day is important. It is not easy, but try it!
Read with a friend. Ask your friend about the story. Talk about it. Your friend can help you. You can help your friend too.
5. Use New Tools
Use your voice! Talk about what you read. This is good practice.
You can use tools to help you. Listen to words. This helps you learn new words.
